As this story begins Chase is a preteen kid. His dad has never been around and his mom is stuck in a coping loop that continues to invite tragedy in many broken ways. He cannot understand why she doesn’t just want to be a mom to him. They live in a trailer park but own the trailer. Chase escapes from the drama and stress by pedaling away on his bike. His adventures include the Lake Huron shoreline and connected creeks. To the west are the miles and miles of Japanese farms, leased for free to pay off some of the old national debt from the former United States of America. Most intriguing for Chase was the hundreds of human-like harvester robots who are a constant source of attention for people from the area. On his return trip home Chase is intrigued by a disheveled man squatting at a dilapidated church. There is something about the guy, or is it the place. For Chase his entire life is about to change.
